Anthony Edwards had quite the eventful Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, the Minnesota Timberwolves guard was cited for third-degree assault after swinging a folding chair on his way to the locker room following the team’s season-ending loss against the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday. After missing a 3-pointer that would have tied the game at the buzzer, Edwards immediately ran off the court. As he went through the tunnel, he picked up a chair and tossed it aside.
The Denver Police Department’s Jay Casillas told Denver Sports that he injured two women working at Ball Arena, one of whom is a security guard.
He would make more news later in the day as he took shots at his team and his teammate.
On Instagram this week, one fan noticed a comment that Edwards liked, which seems to blame the front office for making the Rudy Gobert trade.

The Jazz agreed to send Rudy Gobert to the Timberwolves in exchange for Malik Beasley, Patrick Beverley, Jarred Vanderbilt, Leandro Bolmaro, the draft rights to Walker Kessler (No. 22 pick), the Timberwolves’ unprotected 2023, 2025, and 2027 first-round picks, the Wolves 2029 first-round pick (top-five protected), and the right to swap first-rounders with Minnesota in 2026.
That was a lot to give for a guy who is slow and limited on the offensive end. He is a three-time defensive player, but he doesn’t actually scare many players from trying to come at him inside the paint.
Not helping matters was an injury to Karl Anthony Towns that never gave the trio of him, Gobert, and Edwards enough time to mesh well together.
The Frenchmen averaged 12.5 PPG, the lowest in his last eight seasons. Karl Anthony Towns averaged just 20.8 PPG this season, which was the lowest in his last seven seasons.
This offseason, the team needs to make adjustments to increase the depth of their squad, even if it requires giving up on either KAT or Gobert this summer.
