The 2024 NBA playoffs have been a breakout one for Anthony Edwards. The Timberwolves guard rampaged against the Suns in the first round and escorted NBA MVP Nikola Jokic and his Nuggets side out of the post-season tournament. With his performance, he has even drawn comparisons with a young Michael Jordan. However, the series against the Mavericks has been a different experience for Edwards.
After game 3 in the Western Conference Finals on Sunday, the Minnesota franchise went 3-0 down and is on the verge of elimination. Even in the face of diversity, Anthony Edwards hasn’t stopped being the heartbeat of the locker room as he was seen rallying troops. He reminded everyone that they’d be okay and needed one game to turn the tables. Historically, the Wolves find themselves at an impossible point of return, as no team in NBA history has bounced back to win a conference final after going 3-0 down.
On top of that, Kyrie Irving is on a hot streak of 14 unbeaten games in an eliminator play-off game to make matters worse. But what exactly is going wrong with the Timberwolves? Anthony Edwards had an answer to that after game 3.
Anthony Edwards Dissects Reason for Loss to Mavericks
The Mavs stomped on the Timberwolves as they extended their lead to 3-0 at American Airlines Center. After the 116-107 loss, Anthony Edwards was asked about the key talking point of the game.
“They had 31 free throws, we had 17,” said Anthony Edwards in response. Despite not being at his best, Anthony Edwards scored 26 points on the night with no points from downtown. He was asked to be more aggressive before the game by his HC Chris Finch, and he was just that.

Apart from Edwards, no one from the Timberwolves side stood out. Naz Reid was on fire in the last game but struggled to provide scoring support. Karl-Anthony Towns’ shooting troubles continued, and Rudy Gobert could not deal with the explosive back court of Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic.
Ant-Man and Co. will have another opportunity to stop the Mavs from finishing the series within 4 games when they meet on Tuesday at the same venue, and this time, Anthony Edwards must channel his inner Michael Jordan to keep his side floating.
