After the Minnesota Timberwolves’ thrilling 109-108 loss against the Dallas Mavericks in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals, Anthony Edwards provided insights into the factors that contributed to their defeat. Edwards candidly admitted their failure to balance between making the right play and taking the initiative to score.
“They’re just showing me crowds, man, sitting in the gaps. But I’m turning down a lot of shots, like my midranges and stuff. I’m turning a lot of those down. But we’re getting open looks, so I ain’t tripping… They’re open, so I’m making the right play. But sometimes the right play may be to just shoot it.”
The Timberwolves led by 18 points in the first half and seemed poised to blow Game 2 open. However, combining Luka Doncic’s clutch three-pointer and Kyrie Irving’s leadership helped the Mavericks stage a comeback and secure a narrow victory. This kind of decisive play is what the Wolves could not showcase in the game.
Nevertheless, Edwards remains optimistic about his team’s prospects. He stated that the Timberwolves have experienced similar situations before and have managed to bounce back. He also addressed the team’s mindset, urging his teammates to stay composed and focused.
“I don’t think anyone in the locker room is panicking. I hope not. Just come out and play our brand of basketball. We let them make a run, we’re supposed to go up big but, they made a run and cut it right before the half. We made some mistakes but we’ll be alright.”
