The Minnesota Timberwolves closed out the series against the Nuggets with a 98-90 win at Ball Arena on Sunday. After a monstrous second-half comeback, the Timberwolves did the unthinkable and the internet went berserk.
The Lakers legend, Magic Johnson was one of those celebrating the win and given his social media presence, it was no surprise to see him posting celebratory messages to the Minnesota franchise. He wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter): “Congratulations to the Minnesota Timberwolves, their superstar Anthony Edwards, and my friend and Timberwolves co-owner Alex Rodriguez for advancing to the Western Conference Finals!”
A-Rod was present at Ball Arena to witness the final game of the series and after the win, he posted his celebration handshake with Anthony Edwards. The former Yankees player acquired the Timberwolves in 2021 and since then, has been seen attending multiple games.
Magic Johnson not only congratulated his friend but also gave a shout-out to the Superstar-like performance by Anthony Edwards.
Anthony Edwards Gets Special Shout-Out From Magic After Superstar-Esque Performance
This postseason was a breakout one for Anthony Edwards, who has been firing on all cylinders throughout the playoffs. His comparison to a young Michael Jordan came on the back of his dominant performance throughout the season, so it was obvious that he’d have a say in the series decider.

After Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray went off in the first half, the Timberwolves found themselves in a deep hole to claw their way out of. So they did it as Edwards added 12 points and 8 rebounds in the second half to finish the night with a 16-8-7 stat line. Magic Johnson was impressed by the 22-year-old and gave a shout-out for his heroics.
His packmates Karl-Anthony Towns and Jaden McDaniels also got love from the NBA legend, as both of them dropped 23 points on the Nuggets, with KAT recording a team-high 12 rebounds. Rudy Gobert, Naz Reid and Mike Conley also chipped in with 13, 11 and 10 points respectively.
The Timberwolves proved again that a game is won with offense and the tournament is won with defense. It is to be seen if they can do the latter as the win took the Timberwolves to the conference finals where the Dallas Mavericks await them with the series starting on May 22.
