For much of the 2018-2019 season, the New Orleans Pelicans had to deal with the fact that Anthony Davis had formally requested to be traded as he did not want to be with the franchise that has wasted much of his career with not surrounding him with better talent.
As luck would have it, the New Orleans Pelicans were awarded the No. 1 overall pick on Tuesday night, and it’s assumed they’ll take former Duke star Zion Williamson.
While Williamson is projected to be the next big thing since LeBron James came out of high school, the news does not seem to have swayed current Pelicans star Anthony Davis from his original decision.
The Pelicans front office finally see their chance to build a viable contender and their all-star still wants out. They will likely try like hell to keep him, but they will ultimately have to face the fact that Davis is leaving either through trade or when his contract expires.
