Anthony Davis Makes Bold Claim About His Role And What The Lakers Need To Win Another NBA Championship

If the Los Angeles Lakers management is listening, please take notes. Anthony Davis has made his thoughts clear about what the roster should look like if they want another championship. There has been growing discontent among fans and the front office, and the best time to act is now. 

Davis recently made a bold claim regarding his role within the Lakers and the team’s need to secure another NBA trophy. In a sit-down interview with Shams Charania, Davis expressed his desire for the Lakers to trade for a center, reminiscent of the team’s successful 2019-20 championship roster. He emphasized that he performs at his best when playing as a power forward, benefitting from having a big man alongside him on the court. 

“I think we need another big. I feel like I’ve always been at my best when I’ve been a four and having a big out there. We know it worked when we won a championship with JaVale and Dwight, them at the five, and I’m at the four,” Davis said.

While referring to the 2019-20 team as the “perfect construction,” Davis highlighted the balance of shooters, defensive players, and scorers that defined that championship squad. He candidly stated that the current Lakers roster is still “multiple pieces away” from reaching that optimal level.

The best suggestion for the Lakers is to consider a trade. And this has been a growing sentiment in the league’s landscape. They are struggling to keep things in place, given superstar LeBron James is in the final leg of his storied career. 

In a surprising twist, analyst Bill Simmons has suggested a bold blockbuster trade that could see Anthony Davis move from LA to the Golden State Warriors. Both teams are currently looking to optimize their rosters and make a serious push for the championship. The Lakers are trying to navigate an average season, and the Warriors are struggling to stay in playoff contention. 

The proposed trade would have the Lakers receiving a mix of talent and future assets, while the Warriors aim to pair Davis with superstar Steph Curry.

“It’s a pretty good trade. They’re getting Draymond, Schroder, Kuminga — they get to roll the dice with him — Jackson-Davis. And if you’re the Warriors, you still have enough left, and you’re going to build around Davis and Curry going down the stretch, and you could probably get creative with some other moves. It’s kind of fun,” Simmons said. 

According to Simmons, for the Lakers, this trade could provide a much-needed infusion of talent and depth, particularly with Draymond Green’s defensive prowess and leadership alongside young prospects like Kuminga and Jackson-Davis. The Lakers have already made strides by acquiring 3-and-D wing Dorian Finney-Smith and are keen to make a splash as the trade deadline looms.
