Los Angeles Lakers fans are all too familiar with the anxiety that comes whenever Anthony Davis goes down with an injury, and Sunday night was no different. Davis suffered a scare during the game against the Memphis Grizzlies when he seemed to hurt his left shoulder while fighting for an offensive rebound with Jaren Jackson Jr. in the third quarter. He was visibly in pain, clutching his shoulder, but stayed in the game for a little while before eventually heading to the locker room with about 5:30 left in the third.
Despite the injury scare, Davis didn’t let it stop him. He finished with 40 points, 16 rebounds, two steals, and one block, leading the Lakers to a 116-110 win over the Grizzlies. It was a much-needed win after their loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves earlier in the week. Davis had a huge impact when he returned in the fourth quarter, scoring seven straight points and helping secure the victory.
After the game, Davis seemed to brush off the injury, calling it “just a little stinger.” He explained, “Just went in the back, got some work done. I had four fouls anyway, so it’s about time for me to come out anyway.”
His upbeat attitude seemed to put fans at ease, though given his injury history, it’s hard to ignore the worry.
Latest Update On Anthony Davis’ Injury And Return
Even though Davis looked in pain when the injury first happened, his quick return to the court was a good sign. Lakers head coach JJ Redick made the smart move to keep him out for the rest of the third quarter, as the Lakers were comfortably ahead at 81-61. When Davis came back in the fourth, he wasted no time making his presence felt, scoring seven points in just four minutes.
The Lakers are in a competitive playoff race, sitting in 10th place, just 1.5 games behind the fifth-place Denver Nuggets. So, losing Davis for any length of time would be a huge blow. The silver lining is that the Lakers have a three-day break before their next game against the Sacramento Kings, giving Davis a little time to rest and recover.
