The Los Angeles Lakers have long been reliant on the incredible talents of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Their partnership led the Lakers to the NBA title in 2020, and together, they’ve become the backbone of the team. However, with LeBron’s NBA retirement looming closer, the team must now begin to think about life beyond their two stars, particularly the potential shift in dynamics once James is no longer playing.
Davis recently sat down with ESPN’s Shams Charania. He shared his thoughts on the Lakers’ ongoing transition as they prepare for a future without James. Davis revealed how the team is adapting and hinted at his growing role as the centerpiece of the Lakers’ strategy.
“We’re kind of already transitioning to that. That’s what JJ has kinda come in and kinda did. Like, yes, I want to coach LeBron, but I want to coach AD, and now that transition has kind of happened. Like, okay AD, you’re the hub; you’re the focus of our offense,” Davis said.
“Bron’s going to Bron, obviously, but I think that transition already is happening. At the same time, for me, it’s a mindset of, like, you have to dominate each game; you’ve got to take over,” he added.
Draymond Green Discusses The Challenge Of Guarding Anthony Davis
The Lakers are set to face off against the Warriors on Saturday. Ahead of the game, Draymond Green shared his thoughts on guarding Lakers star Anthony Davis. Green spoke highly of Davis’ skill set and his ability to dominate on the court without even being featured in the offense.
“AD is tough man. He’s one of those guys that he can just get it within the flow. You don’t even have to feature him. He’s still going to be getting it. He can put the ball on the floor; his post-game has got great touch around the rim. AD’s a tough cover man,” Green said.

Earlier this season, the Lakers and Warriors met, but Davis was forced to leave the game due to injury. Nevertheless, Davis is fully fit for Saturday’s game. This season, he is averaging 25.6 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game.
