Anthony Davis offered a couple of conflicting thoughts about his future in Los Angeles after helping the franchise claim its 17th NBA championship.
When asked postgame about how he intends to navigate his looming free agency decision, the Los Angeles Lakers star spoke highly of his successful season with the club but stopped short of committing long term to the Lakers.
“I have no idea. I don’t know. … I had a great time in L.A. this first year,” he told reporters, according to ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk. “This has been nothing but joy, nothing but amazement.
“Over the next couple of months, we’ll figure it out. I mean, I’m not 100 percent sure, but that’s why my agent (Rich Paul) is who he is, and we’ll discuss it and figure it out.”
However, in an Instagram Live appearance with teammate Quinn Cook — Davis appeared to leak his plance when he said the Lakers will “run it right back,” which loosely means the team will not only be defending their title, but going back-to-back as well.
The 27-year-old is all but certain to decline a player option worth approximately $28.7-million for the 2020-21 season so he can get himself a max contract.
