Fanhood isn’t easy. People spend their valuable time and hard-earned money supporting a team whose success they have no control over. This can cause quite a bit of stress on the individuals that the fanbase is comprised of, but what’s slightly more interesting is the way that it can warp the aggregate group.
Some fanbases take this stress and internalize it, while others seem to want to make everyone else around them miserable. Let’s take a look at the 10 most annoying NBA fanbases today.
Utah Jazz
Utah Jazz fans are a particularly brutal group—just ask any NBA player about their experiences playing in front of them. They are routinely accused of hurling horrendous slurs around and I tend to believe when there is that much smoke there is fire.
Cleveland Cavaliers
It takes a special group of people to make LeBron James a sympathetic figure, but that is exactly what Cavs fans did with the way they handled his coming and going. Just because the guy was born in the same state as the franchise doesn’t mean y’all were entitled to him!
Now, it is somehow almost worse than back in the LeBron days… Cleveland has a young, fun team, but its fans make them nearly impossible to root for.

Phoenix Suns
There are few fanbases that love to bash their own players in the way that Suns fans do. It is no wonder why Deandre Ayton wants out of Phoenix so badly… The Suns’ fanbase also seems to have that “new money” complex, where they’ve stumbled into a significant amount of talent on their roster and don’t know how to process it.
Brooklyn Nets
It is a safe proposition that we’ve already seen the worst of the annoying Nets fans now that the Kevin Durant era has come and gone in a hilariously dysfunctional blaze, I might add… Just look around—there are quite a few less Brooklyn jerseys and t’s in circulation these days.
There are still a few “fans” maintaining the façade, but don’t be shocked if they vanish over the next couple years as the organization descends back into irrelevancy.
Philadelphia 76ers
This one can’t come as a surprise… 76ers fans—really, Philly sports fans in general—have a special way of getting under everyone’s skin.
To their credit, they are generally speaking, die-hards, but you can’t go on and on (and on and on) with the “Trust the Process” bit and then try to cry poor when the team inevitably comes up short again.
Miami Heat
Miami’s fanbase is quickly becoming one of the most annoying ones across the entire league. All they want to do is talk about Heat Culture and how amazing the organization as a whole is, conveniently omitting the fact that they are one of the most popular free-agent destinations for non-basketball reasons—and have capitalized on that in a big way.
New York Knicks
Knicks fans do deserve a smidge of empathy for enduring life under James Dolan, but still, do we need to hear how the Knicks are back every time the team sniffs playoff contention? This has long been an unserious franchise and its fanbase seems to struggle to recognize that.
Golden State Warriors
The easiest way to explain how annoying Warriors fans are—is to think back to a simpler time before Steph Curry entered the NBA, when there essentially were no Warriors fans. At least not as we know them today—as brazen bandwagoners that priced out all the die-hards.
Los Angeles Lakers
Lakers fans are the spoiled trust-fund babies of the NBA universe. They are whiny and entitled—and can’t handle the slightest bit of adversity. Never mind the fact that half the fanbase seems to vanish into thin air when the team isn’t playing well.
Boston Celtics
There may be no single-worse group of fans across all of sports than the Boston Celtics faithful. They are loud, brash, and generally unpleasant. Everything about them is brutally annoying. Listening to a Celtics fans brag about their 16 championships is basically the NBA equivalent of Yankees fans shouting to the heavens about their 27 rings. That will tell you all you need to know about them. And just look at the insane amount of in-fighting that goes on over there… Even Celtics fans seem to hate Celtics fans.
