A massive trade proposal has the New York Knicks landing one of the Golden State Warriors’ All-Stars in a move that would shake up the Eastern Conference.
Just a few months after helping the Golden State Warriors to the NBA Championship in 2022, Andrew Wiggins was handed a four-year extension worth $109 million. Earlier this offseason, fellow two-way star Draymond Green was also extended over four years for a total of $100 million.
If the Warriors decide to shop one of their stars (likely Wiggins over Green, Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry), could the Knicks have interest?
At NBA Analysis Network, James Piercey proposed a massive trade idea that has the Knicks acquiring Wiggins in exchange for Isaiah Hartenstein, Evan Fournier and a 2024 first-round draft choice:
“Let’s be clear, this is not a salary dump. Wiggins is too valuable for that type of arrangement. The Warriors are getting value here. It just may not make them better in 2023-24.
On the other hand, they are flipping one rotation player for a pair of them. This deal makes the Warriors deeper. Hartenstein feels like an especially solid fit here. His ability to find teammates with smart passes will fit well in the Warriors’ system.
With that said, the first-round pick is the most valuable asset the Warriors are landing here. They don’t own their own pick in the upcoming draft, so landing a first-rounder allows them to inject some young talent onto their roster.”
The Warriors are just a year removed from their fourth championship in the Curry-Green-Thompson era. Even though they’re all in their mid-30s, the Warriors are still a bonafide championship contender that could very well claim a fifth (or sixth?) title with this group.

A two-way star like Wiggins definitely helps them in the short-term, but if the Dubs decide to focus on the long-term, then Piercey’s trade proposal makes sense for both sides. A defensive-minded head coach like Tom Thibodeau in New York would surely love to have a player like Wiggins on his roster.
For his career, Wiggins has averaged 19.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game.
