Andre Drummond is entering his first season back with the Philadelphia 76ers after a brief stint with the team in 2022. During his recent appearance on the Run Your Race podcast, Drummond sparked a controversy. The 76ers star made a bold claim that sent social media buzzing.
Drummond revealed on the podcast that he had intentionally missed shots during games to collect more rebounds. The second-leading active NBA player in rebounds claimed to do that to boost his position in the NBA’s rebounding ranks. His bold take quickly stirred debate among basketball fans as many took to social media to express their opinions on his approach.
Unsurprisingly, Drummond’s remarks received significant backlash, forcing him to step in and clarify the situation. To address the controversy, the 76ers big man clarified on his X account that his comments were not meant to be taken seriously. “lol it’s a joke people relax…,” Drummond wrote.
Nick Nurse Praises Drummond’s Defensive Skills After Preseason Loss
Andre Drummond is back in Philadelphia, and the 76ers are optimistic about his return to the team. After the 76ers fell short against the Orlando Magic in their preseason finale, head coach Nick Nurse spoke to reporters. Nurse told about the importance of having Drummond on the roster.
“He’s back, so he knows the territory a little bit. I thought it was a major signing for us to get him. He just really dominates the defensive glass, right? If you make them miss, chances are Drum is gonna come down with it, and a lot of times, comes down with it a little without much of a fight for it. It’s like it’s him down there; he’s gonna get it,” Nurse said.
The 76ers will kick off the regular season on Wednesday against the Milwaukee Bucks. Philly fans are eager to see how Drummond’s return will bolster their efforts on the court.
