In a recent episode of the show “First Take,” former NFL player Shannon Sharpe shared his opinion on the ongoing disagreement between Klay Thompson and the Golden State Warriors. The 56-year-old NFL legend doesn’t believe that Thompson has been wronged by the Warriors.
“Think about what Klay meant. I already paid you for what you meant. Remember I gave you that four-year, $140 million, and two of those years you missed with a ruptured Achilles and an ACL. I offered you two years, $48 Million. You said no. We hear stories of people being on themselves. How many times do they bet on themselves, and they wrap out? We don’t hear those stories. They paid Klay for that.” Sharpe said.
Sharpe further praised some NBA teams for their fair payment schedules, citing that a few teams actually compensate players based on their contributions to the organization.
“There are very few teams Lakers with one of those teams that will pay you based on what you have done for this organization, but most businesses, most teams — like no, bro, I am giving you what I believe you can do moving forward. I have already paid you for what you have done in the past.” Sharpe added.
Thompson Received Significant Pay From the Warriors Despite Injuries
Sharpe continued by mentioning that the Warriors paid Thompson a lot of money and didn’t take Thompson’s money back during his Achilles and ACL injuries.
“They Haven’t wronged him. They paid him a ton of money and they paid him two years on that $140 million and only gave them two years of that. When he was rehabbing Achilles, did they take any money back? That year that he tore his ACl, Did they take any money back? Did they wrong him then? Is this the worst thing you can do is measure your worth by what you saw someone else get? He saw Poole, he saw Draymond, he saw Hartenstein.” Sharpe continued.
