Even during his final moments on Earth, Kobe Bryant was being the usual selfless person that he always was when he began texting Lakers general manager/close friend Rob Pelinka on the helicopter minutes before it would crash. Kobe wanted to help family friend Lexi Altobelli land an internship with a baseball agency.
Lexi Altobelli’s father, John, mother, Keri, and sister, Alyssa, were all killed in the helicopter accident.
After hearing Pelinka relay Bryant’s text during Monday’s public service at Staples Center, baseball’s most famous agent, Scott Boras, offered Lexi an internship, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Boras says he has been in contact with J.J. Altobelli, who is Alexis’ brother and a scout with the Boston Red Sox.
“Kobe’s last human act was heroic,” Pelinka said. “He wanted to use his platform to bless and shape a young girl’s future.”
“He clearly wanted to champion a bright future for her,” Pelinka told the audience. “I texted Kobe right back and said I would put a plan in motion to help him get that done.”

“A handful of minutes later, Kobe and Gianna and seven other beautiful souls ascended into heaven. Kobe had been texting me from the helicopter,” Pelinka said.
“Kobe understood the toll it would take on my family time, so he and Vanessa would regularly check in with my wife and kids to make sure everything was good,” he said. “That’s what friends do. Kobe lived to make other people’s lives better all the way up until his final text.”
