During a recent interview with Rachel Nichols on ‘DraftKings Bully Balls with Rachel and Boogie,’ former NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins said that Philadelphia 76ers star player Joel Embiid may need to make one significant adjustment to maintain his health and further his career.
“When it comes to Joel in general, we’ve seen this story happen over and over again. For me, at what point do you start taking the pressure off of those knees, joints, and ankles? Age is starting to get on your side, so there has to be some type of adjustment. I feel like, at some point, the big fella has to come down in weight. … It’s hard to play with 300-plus pounds every night. Eventually, that wear and tear will get the best of you. If he can’t get his health under control at some point, it’s always going to be the same story that we’ve been talking about where he’s injured in the playoffs.” DeMarcus Cousins said during the interview.
Embiid should consider losing weight to reduce pressure on his knees and avoid injuries in the future, according to Cousins. He believes that as Embiid is aging, weight loss is important.

Cousins acknowledged that Embiid is not overweight
In the first game, Embiid’s performance was one of the highlights for the 76ers, as he scored 29 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and made 6 assists in just 37 minutes. However, during the podcast with Rachel Nichols, DeMarcus Cousins suggested that Embiid should lose some weight or do some fat loss to be in the NBA for a longer time.
Although Cousins acknowledged that Embiid is not overweight, he explained that his 300-pound weight creates challenges for his lower body during the game.
Unfortunately, Embiid’s ongoing struggles with the same issues he faced during the regular season have continued in the postseason. In the opening game of the series against the New York Knicks, he suffered a knee injury, which further exacerbated his already difficult situation.
