Jalen Brunson signed for the Knicks in the Summer of 2022 after becoming a free agent. Following the Mavs’ snub of his contract request, Brunson chose free agency and it would not be an overstatement to say that the move worked out well for both him and the Knicks.
The guard has become a key member of the squad and has powered the Knicks to new heights this season. All his impressive showings are now getting validated as he is put next to the greats of the game, LeBron James and Kevin Durant.

Adrian Wojnarowski has massive praise for Jalen Brunson
ESPN’s renowned sports columnist, Adrian Wojnarowski has made an eye-catching statement by calling Jalen Brunson the most impactful NBA free agent signing in over a decade barring the Lakers great LeBron James and Suns’ Kevin Durant.
Acknowledging the guard’s contribution towards the New York franchise, Wojnarowski said, “What he has done for this Knicks organization, yes, getting into the playoffs last year and advancing, but he has pulled this entire organization that had been rudderless for years together”. Brunson has often shouldered the blame when the team failed to perform on-court which also highlights his leadership qualities.
Apart from magnifying him as a good leader and an even better “locker room character guy”, the NBA insider gives credit to the NBA All-Star for carrying the team to the last year as well as this year’s playoffs.

Despite not having enough accolades to Brunson’s name, Woj glorifies the influence he has in building the Knicks team as they are well on course to successive playoff qualification.
Brunson carrying Knicks to playoffs
Jalen Brunson has been on fire this season. The 27-year-old earned his first NBA All-Star selection this season for his exceptional showings. The two-time NCAA champion has been averaging 27.6 points per game this season with a healthy field goal percentage of 47.8. His 3.7 rebounding and 6.4 assists only back his finishing mentality to bolster the Knicks’ offence.
In the last three games he is averaging just over 40 points per game. In that run, he scored 45 points against the Trail Blazers, 42 against the Kings and 34 against the Warriors on Monday night.
The former Villanova guard scored his season-high 50 against the Suns in December. His fiery form has stretched into the March as well and he has been declared the Player Of The Week in the Eastern Conference. His 35.7 PPG over the span of the week has outscored his Western Conference counterpart, the Rockets’ Jalen Green by 7.4 points.
While the Knicks are at the 4th spot in the East table with a 41-27 record, bigger challenges are in front of Jalen and Co. as the playoff nears. Only in the playoffs, Jalen Brunson’s championship mettle can be tested to the fullest to prove his backers right.
