Adrian Wojnarowski announced his retirement from ESPN last month, stepping away from a lucrative $20 million contract. Wojnarowski, who built a reputation as a leading source for breaking NBA news alongside Athletics’ Shams Charania, has now set his sights on a new challenge. He plans to transition into a new role as the general manager of St. Bonaventure’s men’s basketball team.
Despite the vast gap that Wojnarowski left, ESPN wasted no time finding a replacement. According to reports, Charania has been hired as ESPN’s new senior NBA insider.
Following Charania’s hiring, Wojnarowski shared a heartfelt message for his successor. During an appearance on The Jim Rome Show, Wojnarowski revealed that he didn’t hesitate to reach out to Charania after the news broke.
“ Shams texted me after I announced my retirement. And you know what? I told him what I would say today that I hope he has as fulfilling and as rewarding of a career as I’ve had. And I certainly wish that for him,” Wojnarowski said.
“And he’s right about the incredible group of colleagues that he’s going to find at ESPN—the best of the best, incredible reporters on-air talent,” he added.
