Memphis Grizzlies All-Star point guard Ja Morant is currently suspended by the team following a video that went viral on social media where he allegedly was holding a gun for the second time this year.
A similar incident happened during the regular season that got the former Murray State star suspended for eight games.
Recently, Claudia Jordan of the Breakfast Club revealed that Morant’s camp is stating he was actually holding a toy gun.
Jordan on The Breakfast Club: “My sources say that the relative in the car in the backseat had a toy gun in the car. The gun is not real. And was playing around with it, passed it over to Ja, and that got caught on the live.”
NBA commissioner Adam Silver was asked about this excuse during a recent appearance on The Dan Patrick Show.
“The very issue was treating the gun as a toy,” Silver explained. “That’s what we’re talking about and that’s what I think the danger is to society… I think everyone agrees that gun safety is critically important — and that guns aren’t toys.
“Should it matter whether or not it’s a real gun? … We’re going to take into account whatever is presented to us.”

Before Game 1 of the NBA Finals, commissioner Adam Silver addressed the media about the league’s investigation, and while they have figured out Ja’s punishment, it won’t be announced until after the NBA Finals between the Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets is over.
“We’ve uncovered a fair amount of additional information, I think, since I was still asked about the situation. I would say we probably could have brought it to a head now, but we made the decision, and I believe the Player’s Association agrees with us, that it would be unfair to these players and these teams in the middle of the series to announce the results of that investigation.”
Morant is one of the best players in the league and led the Grizzlies to a 51-31 record, which got them the second seed in the Western Conference for the second consecutive year.
However, they ran into a more improved Los Angeles Lakers team that dropped them in the first round.
The 23-year-old finished the regular season with sensational averages of 26.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, 8.1 assists, and 1.1 steals per contest while shooting 46.6% from the field.
There’s no telling how many games he will end up missing for next year over his behavior.
