The Los Angeles Lakers have had a relatively quiet offseason following their notable picks in the 2024 NBA Draft, where they added Dalton Knecht and Bronny James. However, despite those moves, the team has not made any significant additions from other rosters.
One potential acquisition fell through when Klay Thompson, whom the Lakers had their eye on, chose to join the Dallas Mavericks instead. Now, the Lakers are being linked to another potential trade involving Miami Heat star Jimmy Butler.
According to a recent mock trade scenario shared by Andy Bailey of Bleacher Report, Butler could join the Lakers. The report suggested that Miami could push for Austin Reaves to be included in the deal instead of Gabe Vincent.
“Miami, meanwhile, might insist on Austin Reaves being in the deal instead of Gabe Vincent. L.A. might even budge on that or counter by taking one of the picks out of the framework. Either way, this would give the Heat some valuable draft assets,” the report read.
Should the Los Angeles Lakers Target Jimmy Butler to Revive Their Dominance?
Though Jimmy Butler remains with the Miami Heat, he has the option to decline his $52 million player option for the 2025-26 season. While Butler reportedly has a positive view of the Brooklyn Nets, the Los Angeles Lakers could still make a strong push to bring him to Los Angeles.
Last season showed that while still talented, LeBron James and Anthony Davis are no longer the dominant duo they once were. Adding Butler would give the team a third superstar alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis, potentially boosting their championship hopes.

“Adding Butler to the mix might create some interesting spacing issues. The floor could get a little crowded with him and AD both on it, but he’d obviously represent a talent upgrade,” Bailey wrote.
The 6x NBA All-Star is coming off a season averaging 20.8 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game.
