This is…something.
Just days after Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr. ran a #BlackLivesMatter paint scheme in the NASCAR Cup Series race at Martinsville Speedway, a team in the second-tier XFINITY Series seemingly responded to him by running a #BackTheBlue paint scheme Saturday at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
Kyle Weatherman’s No. 47 Mike Harmon Racing Chevrolet will have a paint scheme with #BackTheBlue written on the quarter panels and bumper, while the hood of the car has a black and white American flag on it with a blue line through it. That Blue line has become a symbol to support police and other law enforcement.
Nobody on the team has stated it’s a response to Bubba Wallace’s car, but it is painfully obvious that it is, and not only that, it is incredibly tone deaf to do it right now with the widespread protests of police after George Floyd was murdered by Minneapolis police.
