Back in June, NASCAR Cup Series champions Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch and Joey Logano were joined by drivers Bubba Wallace and Ryan Blaney in cutting ties with Jason Beam, the well-known helmet artist who used his Twitter account to rip NASCAR’s decision to ban the Confederate flag from its races and tracks.
One of the tweets from the @BEAMdesigns account read: “The Confederate Flag, North vs South in the Civil War, a war over separation of the Union, not slavery. But hey ignorance wins again, NASCAR you realize the North had slaves too, lol not just the South, you want to remove the American Flag as well, idiots.”
Fast forward to October and Beam is back making controversial comments on Twitter and he isn’t apologizing for it.
“I never once flip flopped,” Beam said … “Fuck Bubba and Fuck the BLM movement and F*ck anyone who wants to censor opinions and let politics get in the way of business relationships.”
“You can quote me all you want, that’s my stance and has been from the get go.”
Wallace saw that tweet and promptly fired back at Beam.
“Can usually let the BS roll off but when it’s somebody I’ve met personally and was genuinely excited to have my first few lids painted by him .. hits different.”
