There are a lot of crossovers happening in the fight world. MMA fighters are going over to the boxing ring and even YouTubers are entering the boxing arena. There have been a few instances where some major WWE stars came to the UFC to the real fight world to test out their skills. One of those instances was when CM Punk entered the UFC and it caused a lot of fan fare.
UFC is the biggest and the most famous MMA organization on the planet and many folks want to feature in the organization from all around the world.
CM Punk gives his honest opinion on his UFC career
WWE Superstar CM Punk achieved quite a ton in his wrestling career in the WWE. He made a switch to the UFC back in 2016 when he took on Mickey Gall and got submitted in the first round of their bout after getting struck a total of 20 times in the Octagon. CM Punk in a recent interview with Ariel Helwani said,
I’m glad I did it. Zero regrets, [except] I shouldn’t have fought in Chicago, because of the worst two weeks of my life – easily the worst two weeks of my life. I couldn’t cut weight properly.
I still made weight, I’m proud of myself for that. I’m an ambitious guy […] I get it, it’s easy to ‘LOL’ and make fun of me. Some people will look at that and be like: ‘That’s embarrassing.’
I f***ing made the weight, I made the walk, I am 100 per cent proud of myself. And I would do it again, because that was me at my absolute worst, and I did it. You want to call me a loser, that’s cool, but I was stoked I got that opportunity, and I was stoked I did it.
He made it quite clear that he has got no regrets as he took the chance to explore the octagon. Punk did admit the weight cut was a bit too brutal for him the very first time when he fought in the UFC. He did acknowledge the fact that he got badly trolled by the public for his performance in the two fights but is quite satisfied that he took on the risk to test out his skills in a totally different arena.
Brock Lesnar who was also a WWE champion has crossed over to the UFC before and even won the Heavyweight championship in the company. He was one of the biggest star in the organization and even beat some of the top contenders during his time in the company. Since Lesnar there has been no serious WWE star who ever became a top contender in the company. It’ll be interesting to see if we’ll ever get someone from the WWE to come to the UFC.
