UFC Vegas 89 went down this weekend. It was supposed to be night of exciting matchups to get the fans excited. But as it turns out it turned out to be a night of controversy. The event which was headlined by Amanda Ribas and Rose Namajunas had a lot of spectacular fights in its undercard. One of them was Igor Severino taking on Andre Lima. Their fight tuned out to be a memorable one for all the wrong reasons.
Dana White drops the hammer on Igor Severino
The fight between Igor Severino and Andre Lima came to an end after the former bit his opponent in the second round. Andre Lima won the fight through disqualification and now as it stands Severino is set to bid farewell to his UFC career. Both the fighters were undefeated coming into the bout. There was a visible bite mark on Andre’s body during their matchup. Dana White reportedly texted senior journalist Kevin Iole that Andre has seen the last of the Octagon. White texted,
Those were two up-and-coming undefeated fighters. If you get frustrated and want out of the fight, there are plenty of ways to do it, but the worst thing u can do is bite your opponent. Now, you get cut and lose the biggest opportunity of your life. Not to mention, he’s going to have real problems with the [Nevada State Athletic Commission].
White certainly didn’t like Severino’s rash way of conducting himself. He made it clear that Igor will be cut from the organization. Both the fighters were undefeated coming into this bout. Dana made it clear that Igor handled things in the worst way possible during the fight. He also pressed on the fact that he’ll have some real trouble with the Nevada State Athletic Commission.
Lima on the other hand was given a $50,000 bonus, his manager revealed. The Brazilian Severino earned his contract from the Contender series during September of last year. Unfortunately his UFC journey met with a sad end. The cancellation of the contract of the Brazilian sends out a clear message that you don’t mess with the company rules in the UFC. Dana White might be one of the most lenient bosses when it comes to MMA but he takes all the violations pretty seriously.
It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Severino a few day later as he will be dealing with the wrath of Nevada State Athletic Commission.
