Dustin Poirier was back in action last night against Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299. It was his first fight since his knockout loss at the hands of Justin Gaethje last year.
Having lost in his previous outing inside the octagon, Poirier was motivated to get back to the winning column. However, standing in his way was the scary Frenchman. Saint-Denis had finished all five of his previous opponents.
Going into the fight, Dustin Poirier was a considerable underdog, however, after seemingly being down on points after the first round, the former UFC interim lightweight champion secured a vicious knockout in the second round.
Following an emphatic victory over Benoit Saint-Denis, a lot has been speculated about Poirier’s next fight. It is worth noting that nothing seems certain at the moment. Having fought most of the fighters in the top 10 rankings of the lightweight division, it looks like Poirier might take on Mateusz Gamrot for his next fight. Gamrot was in action at UFC 299 as well and secured a victory against Rafael Dos Anjos.
That said, nothing can be said with certainty at the moment and it will be interesting to see what’s next for Dustin Poirier.
