The UFC St. Louis just went down in Missouri, and the Missouri boys Derrick Lewis and Joaquin Buckley won their respective bouts, wooing the crowd. The local boys will want to continue their winning momentum and head toward the title in their respective divisions. Joaquin Buckley clarified who he wanted to fight in the octagon post-fight interview. Buckley is number eleven in the Welterweight division and will look to climb up the rankings to get a title shot.
Buckley has arguably got the best knockout in the history of the company.
Joaquin Buckley calls out former title contender
Joaquin Buckley displayed impressive striking skills in the UFC St. Louis co-main event. Buckley could outstrike his much larger opponent in the octagon throughout three rounds. Buckley made sure not to let his opponent use his massive reach advantage. Joaquin Buckley made sure to shoot his shot and call out one of the veterans in the division and the former title challenger. Buckley said,
Gilbert Burns I think is a beautiful fight… a beautiful match up.
Buckley called out Gilbert Burns, the guy who challenged Kamaru Usman for the UFC Welterweight title a few years back. Burns is coming off a fresh loss against the Australian Jack. Buckley is now on an impressive four-fight win streak in the UFC Welterweight division. Gilbert Burns is a former four-time grappling world champion and is an absolute menace on the mat.
Burns inflicted heavy damage on Kamaru in the first round in his title fight a couple of years back in the company. If Buckley is to take on Burns, he must be wary of his grappling in the octagon. Burns might need to worry about Buckley’s striking as the man from Missouri carries some heavy striking pedigree in the octagon. It will be interesting to see how a fight between the top two welterweights in the octagon goes shortly. Will the UFC pay any heed to Buckley’s callout or not? It remains to be seen.
