The Nigerian Nightmare might just be ready to terrorize the welterweight division again. Kamaru Usman has been out of the Octagon since last year. But now, his next fight could be a banger, with rising star Jack Della Maddalena dropping hints about UFC 312. The Aussie fighter shared a report suggesting they have verbally agreed to throw down in Sydney.
UFC 312 is heading to Australia on February 9th. Della Maddalena, riding high as the #4 ranked welterweight, needs a big-name opponent. And who better than Usman, the guy Dana White keeps calling the welterweight GOAT?
“BREAKING NEWS. Kamaru Usman vs JackDella Maddalena is verbally agreed for #UFC312 in Sydney, Australia,” posted Della Maddalena on his Instagram Story.
Jack Della Maddalena started his career by losing twice. Then something clicked, and he went full Super Saiyan – seventeen straight wins. His recent victories over Gilbert Burns and Kevin Holland proved he’s no joke.
For Kamaru Usman, this fight makes sense on multiple levels. He’s looking to bounce back after some tough losses. At 37, he needs to prove he’s still got that championship-level threat. Plus, fighting a younger, hungry challenger like Della Maddalena could reignite his legendary status.
Why Did Jack Della Maddalena Pull Out Of UFC 305?
Sometimes, even the toughest fighters have to bow down to the mighty power of bacteria. Della Maddalena‘s plans for a hometown showdown at UFC 305 in Perth went sideways. The rising welterweight star faced an opponent no amount of training could prepare him for.

It all started after his spectacular win over Gilbert Burns at UFC 299. JDM broke his forearm during the fight but still managed to get the knockout. But that’s when things got dicey, and one surgery turned into three. His first procedure seemed fine until the wound started splitting open after ten days.
The doctors rushed him back in for round two. They cleaned the bone and replaced a plate, and nine days of IV antibiotics followed. Recovery time for this was about twelve weeks if everything played nice.
The timing couldn’t have been worse. UFC 305 was set for August 17th at Perth’s RAC Arena. Fighting in their hometown is every fighter’s dream. But instead of throwing punches, Jack Della Maddalena was throwing back pills. Hopefully, fans will soon see him back in action against the welterweight GOAT Kamaru Usman!
