Alex ‘Poatan’ Pereira, the Brazilian MMA fighter and former kickboxing star, boasts an impressive resume. In kickboxing, he once held the Glory middleweight and light heavyweight titles concurrently, a unique achievement in the sport. Pereira suffered only one knockout loss in his kickboxing career, delivered by a Ukrainian opponent in 2016.
Alex Pereira’s Sole Knockout Loss in Kickboxing
Alex Pereira, a former champion in both the GLORY Middleweight and Light heavyweight divisions of kickboxing, has a record of 33 wins and seven losses. Out of his seven losses, he was knocked out only once during his kickboxing career. Recently, a video of Pereira’s kickboxing days gained significant attention.
The video showcases his first knockout loss in kickboxing, which occurred when he was defeated by Artur Kyshenko in 2016. This outcome surprised many observers. However, Kyshenko’s victory was later overshadowed by a suspension of four years after he tested positive for a banned substance.
Pereira’s kickboxing journey was remarkable, and he later transitioned to the world of UFC. On September 3, 2021, Alex Pereira officially joined the UFC. His debut in the promotion took place on November 6, 2021, at UFC 268, where he faced Andreas Michailidis. Pereira emerged victorious, securing a technical knockout in the second round.
He competes in the UFC’s Light Heavyweight division and holds the title of UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. He previously held the UFC Middleweight Championship as well.
