UFC 299 saw Dustin Poirier return to the octagon with a bang. He took on rising lightweight star Benoit Saint-Denis in a bout where he was an underdog going into the fight.
Having lost his last fight via stoppage against Justin Gaethje, Dustin Poirier was motivated to secure an emphatic victory. On the flip side, Benoit Saint-Denis had been on a tear in the UFC and finished all five of his previous opponents.
It was believed that Saint-Denis would bring the fight to Poirier and he did exactly that. In the first round of their UFC 299 fight, it was the Frenchman who looked to be the better fighter as he continued to pile on pressure.
In the second round, the story wasn’t different at all and Benoit Saint-Denis pressured Dustin Poirier. However, ‘The Diamond’ was able to catch Saint-Denis coming forward with a vicious right hand that knocked him out cold. Take a look at the video below:

What did Dana White say about Dustin Poirier vs. Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299?
Much like the fans, the UFC president Dana White was also impressed with Dustin Poirier’s performance against Benoit Saint-Denis. Coming off a knockout loss at the hands of Justin Gaethje last year, many questioned Poirier’s decision to take on the Frenchman.

Howvever, Poirier silenced his critics in emphatic fashion as he secured a vicious knockout in the second round of the fight. Speaking about the same during the post-fight press conference, Dana White applauded ‘Diamond’ for taking up a rather tough fight.
Further, Dana White hailed the fight between Dustin Poirier and Benoit Saint-Denis as legendary and said:
“The fight that [Dustin Poirier] took tonight with Benoit… this is the sh*t that makes you a f**king legend. These are legendary fights when you go in and you face a guy who is a savage and [it] looks like you can’t win this fight or people think you can’t win this fight and then you go in and do it in spectacular fashion, the way that he did tonight.”
