UFC 303 took place in Sin City, Las Vegas, this weekend. The card turned out to be a solid one in the octagon, with many finishes and knockouts. The main event was headlined by Alex Pereira, who took on Jiri Prochazka for the UFC’s Light Heavyweight title. The main event was spectacular as Pereira finished Procahzaka.
In this write-up, we look at how Alex successfully defended his Light Heavyweight title for the second time in the octagon.
Alex Pereira: The Finisher
Alex Pereira established himself as a glorified knockout artist in the octagon when he finished Jiri Prochazka in the octagon in UFC 303. He has won a majority of his fights via finishes in the cage. Many thought Jiri would be the samurai who stopped the Poatan in the octagon and won the UFC gold, but as it turns out, there is no match for Pereira’s power in the fight cage.
Pereira dropped Jiri at the end of the first round with a strong left hook. Luckily for Prochazka, the first round ended, and Alex didn’t get to follow up the knockout with strikes. But as the second round began, Alex hit his rival with an acrobatic head kick in the temple, and Jiri was knocked out. Herb Dean called an end to the contest between the two, with Alex winning a hefty prize money.
In his post-fight interview, Alex Pereira opened up on the possibility of fighting in the Heavyweight division and claimed that if the MMA fans wanted to fight, he would fight in the Heavyweight division of the UFC. A bout between Jon Jones and Alex Pereira seems to be on the horizon at the UFC.
