A good old-fashioned case of unsolicited advice has caused a stir in the world of MMA. And who’s at the center of this exchange? None other than the Kyrgyzstani-Peruvian powerhouse, Valentina “Bullet” Shevchenko, and her upcoming opponent, Alexa Grasso.
Shevchenko, the former flyweight queen, is gearing up for her trilogy bout with Grasso at Noche UFC 306. Now, Grasso’s been giving out some free advice, suggesting that Shevchenko needs to be more aggressive to reclaim her title. When Shevchenko heard about these pearls of wisdom, she burst out laughing.
”So she’s going to be on her side of the octagon expecting me to be on my side? That’s hilarious. Oh my God…I’m just going to bring my spirit. I’m going to bring my power and my speed, and I’m going to bring my experience to the fight. The No. 1 goal what I have to do in this fight is be myself. I don’t have to play someone’s game,’ said Shevchenko via MMA Junkie.’
Let’s not forget these two have a bit of history. They’ve faced each other twice before, with Grasso taking the title in their first bout and the second ending in a split draw. They’ve even been opposing coaches on “The Ultimate Fighter.” At this point, they probably know each other’s fighting styles much better.
Valentina Shevchenko’s not about to play anyone’s game but her own. She’s bringing her spirit, power, speed, and experience to the fight. ‘Bullet’ has a solid striking background and has dominated her division for years. Fans will have to see how she brings out her A-game against Grasso.

Grasso recently dropped a bombshell in an interview with MMA Junkie. She claimed their relationship was in a “really weird place” after spending so much time together on The Ultimate Fighter. Shevchenko gave her response, which was a mix of diplomacy and subtle jabs.
“I would say yes, definitely. We could make a record of times, of faceoff times in all of history of the UFC. So many faceoffs, and I don’t say that like it was weird. For me, it was kind of normal. Everything we have to do inside the octagon, it’s inside the octagon. Outside, I respect all of my opponents every time, I have respect for all of them,’’ said Shevchenko via MMA Junkie.
One thing is for sure: this “weird” relationship has produced some of the most compelling women’s MMA in recent memory. Sometimes, a little awkwardness is just what a rivalry needs to reach legendary status.
