Chael Sonnen has often praised the Nurmagomedov family as the greatest in combat sports, given their dominance and achievements that many consider almost surreal. However, their morale took a hit when Umar lost to Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 311. Despite this setback, Usman Nurmagomedov is staying focused ahead of his upcoming Bellator title fight. He’s determined to win, not only for himself but also in honor of his cousin Umar, vowing to bring the title home for both of them.
Ahead of his lightweight title defense against Paul Hughes on January 25, Usman shared his thoughts with Anatomy of the Fighter during a documentary. Reflecting on the recent loss of his cousin Umar, Usman expressed his unwavering focus on his upcoming fight.
He acknowledged that losses are part of the game in tough sports like MMA, but he’s ready to embrace the challenge. Usman promised to defend the title not only for himself but also for Umar, the one who brought him into the sport, aiming to turn this fight into a victory for both of them.
He said, “This is a tough sport and sometimes that happens you know. But we’re always thankful to god. We come from very poor village with my brother. I remember he took me in this sport. So everything is good. I just focus on my fight and I will win for both of us.”
Khabib Declares It’s Usman Nurmagomedov’s Time To Prove He’s The Best
Khabib posted a set of photos on Instagram, marking the start of Usman’s training camp in Dubai. In the post, Khabib stressed his commitment to ensuring his cousin’s belt stays secure, highlighting the importance of this moment for the youngest member of their family. With urgency, Khabib encouraged Usman to take center stage and show the world that he’s the best in the business.
The real test will come when Usman steps into the cage to defend his belt, especially with the weight of Khabib’s expectations on his shoulders. Khabib sees this as his next big goal, while Usman has vowed to bring the title home for his brother. The pressure is immense, particularly after Umar’s loss, but the determination to keep the belt in the family is stronger than ever.
