The UFC’s heavyweight division is in flux. Jon Jones, the undisputed champion, will fight later this year. Tom Aspinall, the interim champion, will put his title on the line against Curtis Blaydes. In this situation, Jailton Almeida has proposed a plan to Dana White involving Ciryl Gane.
Almeida looked like a force to be reckoned with in the heavyweight division. However, Curtis Blaydes knocked him out at UFC 302, halting his momentum. Nonetheless, Almeida has rebounded with a first-round submission over Alexander Romanov at UFC 302.
Almeida Seeks High-Stakes Clash with Gane in Paris
After he defeated Romanov, Jailton Almeida called out Ciryl Gane for a matchup in Paris. With the interim and undisputed title fights in order, Almeida has suggested another heavyweight matchup to UFC CEO Dana White via X, formerly Twitter.
“Hey @fernandlopez @ciryl_gane, Ares already happened, lets talk about big fights. 28, semptember is comming, and the only fight to make in Paris is Almeida x Gane, lets go guys, winner go to title shot! @danawhite @Mickmaynard2,” tweeted Almeida.
Gane was the UFC’s first choice to challenge Aspinall at UFC 304. However, Gane had a French film commitment, forcing his withdrawal from the PPV event in Manchester. The UFC goes to Paris annually in September after the nation removed its ban on MMA.
Therefore, Almeida’s idea of a number one contender fight makes sense, particularly as Jones and Stipe Miocic will certainly retire after their fight. That would make the UFC elevate the winner of Aspinall vs. Blaydes to undisputed from the interim. Almeida can then challenge for the title if victorious against Gane.
