Dana White has dealt with several superstar fighters throughout his career as the UFC head honcho. However, none have been as active as Israel Adesanya, the former middleweight champion. The Nigerian-Kiwi was the biggest star of the UFC in the absence of Conor McGregor.
Adesanya was on a self-imposed hiatus after he lost to Sean Strickland in a monumental upset at UFC 293. However, things changed when Strickland lost the title to Dricus du Plessis at UFC 297. The South African du Plessis called out Adesanya, who accepted the callout.
Israel Adesanya Announces His Return via Social Media
Dana White unknowingly leaked Israel Adesanya’s return to UFC 305 in Perth against Dricus Du Plessis. Adesanya has now opened up about his return, announcing he will fight du Plessis at UFC 305 via his official Instagram.
Adesanya posted a picture of himself looking up with golden gloves in his hand; the UFC had recently introduced golden gloves for championship fights. Moreover, he revealed his opponent’s name (Du Plessis), date(August 17), and event(UFC 305 in Perth) in the same picture.
Adesanya has a heated rivalry with du Plessis, stemming from their shared African origin. South African du Plessis had criticized several African Americans for living outside Africa. On the other hand, Adesanya dropped several N-bombs on du Plessis at UFC 290.
Du Plessis has never lost in the UFC, though many deemed his victory against Strickland a robbery. On the other hand, Adesany has traded wins and losses in his past four fights. However, the matchup between Du Plessis and Adesanya is, stylistically, a fans’ delight.
