MMA gods answered Belal Muhammad’s prayers when Dana White announced Muhammad vs. Leon Edwards as the main event of UFC 304 in Manchester. Ahead of the title fight in the coming month, Muhammad seemed confident of his chances of becoming the welterweight champion.
Muhammad and Edwards have a history as they fought to a No Contest in the main event of UFC Vegas 21. The fight ended in the second round after an inadvertent eye poke rendered Muhammad unable to continue. However, Muhammad is confident of a different outcome at UFC 304.
Muhammad Questions Edwards’ Resume Ahead of UFC 304
Muhammad was a recent guest on the Anik and Florian Podcast, where he delved into his upcoming title fight against Edwards. On the podcast, Muhammad stated that his recent victories were superior to those of Edwards.
“I’ve had to fight a bunch of different styles. I fought a better striker than him in Wonderboy, a better grappler than him in Maia and Burns, and then I had to beat a guy that knocked me out in Luque,” Muhammad said of his recent fights, citing he grew from the training camps in between.
“He really fought Nate Diaz after me, he fought [Kamaru] Usman the first time where he was killed, and then the Covington fight—you really can’t take anything from it ’cause Covington sucked that whole fight,” Muhammad said of Edwards’ recent fights.
Jon Anik pondered whether Edwards posed a stylistic threat to Muhammad. Muhammad vehemently opposed it, citing him as Edwards’ Kryptonite. However, Muhammad is betting under, dog and Shvakat Rakhmonov is waiting in the wings for the winner of the UFC 304 main event.
