Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka epitomize what it means to be a Samurai and Amazonian warrior. The current light heavyweight champion and former champion, respectively, have a huge fanbase, and their first encounter at UFC 295 broke several records.
Pereira was the victor in their first fight, knocking out Prochazka in the second round of the main event. However, many felt that referee Marc Goddard had stopped the fight early, a recurring pattern for Goddard in high-profile fights.
Herb Dean to Oversee Prochazka vs. Pereira Showdown at UFC 303
The Brazilian has seen the scorecard in only two of his eight fights in the UFC, while the Czech Republican has never seen the scorecard five fights into his UFC career. Derek Cleary, Dave Tirelli, and Sal D’Amato were the judges for their first fight at UFC 295. All had it 10-9 for Prochazka.
For the upcoming fight at UFC 303 on the T-Mobile Arena, the Nevada State Athletic Commission has announced that Cleary and D’Amato will judge again, with Ron McCarthy replacing Tirelli. Moreover, Herb Dean, the 9-time Referee of the Year World MMA Award winner, will be the third man in the fight.
Judge Tirelli’s scorecard for Paulo Costa vs. Sean Strickland had received criticism. With Ron McCarthy, the NSAC might have opted for a dependable name. Ron is the son of John McCarthy, the retired legendary MMA referee.
The judging and refereeing assignments were revealed by the NSAC in their recent monthly Tuesday meeting. Moreover, they also determined the fines for Arman Tsarukyan and Igor Severino in the meeting. The commission will reveal the other assignments on Saturday at UFC 303.
