Even though UFC 303 will not have Conor McGregor in the main event, the PPV has exciting fights. On a personal and professional level, one fight promising to be exciting is the main card opener between Michael ‘Venom’ Page and Ian Garry.
The welterweight matchup pits the English striker against the undefeated Irish youngster. Preluding to their fight, they have thrown shade at each other, and it seems it won’t end anytime soon.
Ian Garry vs. Michael Page Heats Up
Page was not Garry’s original opponent at UFC 303; it was Colby Covington. Ultimately, the 37-year-old Brit stepped in after numerous fighters declined to fight Garry. The Irishman has been critical and dismissive of Page, and the feeling seems mutual.
“I can see why people don’t like him. I don’t think it’s really his personality. He just, that’s what he decided to go with. It doesn’t bother me because at the end of the day, when I knock you out, it doesn’t mean anything,” said Page on UFC 303 Embedded, critiquing Garry’s persona.
Page had already revealed his plan to challenge Kamaru Usman, the former welterweight champion, after UFC 303. As for Garry, he has sought wisdom from Charles Oliveira, his teammate at Chute Boxe, for the fight against his British counterpart.
Garry had criticized Page for his inability to win the title at Bellator. Moreover, he recently revealed he had no interest in fighting the 37-year-old fighter, citing his skill level as lower than his. Oddsmakers have Garry as a favorite, but Page is dangerously live underdog.
