Dustin Poirier will go down as one of the best lightweight fighters of all time in the UFC, who is yet to touch the world title. A former Interim champion, Poirier, failed to clinch the BMF belt when he suffered a horrendous head-kick KO against Justin Gaethje.
Returning from a concussion, ‘Diamond will set foot against Frenchman Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 299 in Miami, Florida. That said, Dustin Poirier can possibly hang up his gloves without ever touching the UFC title. In a recent interaction with TMZ, Poirier reflected on his possible.
Dustin Poirier said, “Every fight could be [my last]. Where I’m at, 35 years old. This is my 30th fight in the UFC. Every fight could be it.”
Benoit Saint-Denis is a hard-hitting striker. However, Dustin Poirier is technically a much more reputed fighter than him on the papers. He is the only man to have knocked out Conor McGregor in MMA and he has done it twice so far. His long list of wins includes victims like Justn Gathje, Eddie Alvarez, and Max Holloway among other elites.
That said, the lightweight division seems to have moved on ahead. The winners of Justin Gaethje vs Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira vs Arman Tsarukyan are expected to get the 155 lbs title shots next, Hence, Poirier shall have to wait if he envisions having another shot at the gold.

How Many Times Has Dustin Poirier Lost UFC Title Fights?
Ideally, Max Hollway has participated in four UFC title fights so far. ‘Diamond’ bagged the Interim lightweight belt by beating Max Hollway at UFC 236, his first belt in the promotion and a ticket to fight for the gold. However, Khabib Nurmagomedov submitted the American star at UFC 242 leaving Poirier’s first world title shot in vain.
After securing prominent victories, Poirier earned his second world title shot/ and third title fight in the UFC. Going against Charles Oliveira, Poirier suffered another submission loss at UFC 269 and failed to become the lightweight champion.
His next title fight was for the BMF belt against Justin Gaethje at UFC 291, whom Poirier had already beaten in the past. Meanwhile, tables turned as Gaethje avenged the loss by knocking out Poirier via head kick at UFC 291. It remains to be seen whether Dustin Poirier can return from that defeat and shock the world at UFC 299.
