Diego Lopes showed his gangster mentality with his decisions, preluding his UFC 303 co-main event fight. Originally scheduled as a featherweight matchup against Brian Ortega, the promotion rebooked it at lightweight on a day’s notice after Ortega couldn’t make the limit. Moreover, the former title challenger pulled out on fight day, and Dan Ige filled in on four hours’ notice for a 165-lb catchweight fight.
Evloev and Lopes’ Feud Intensifies Following UFC 303
Lopes had no qualms about fighting anyone at any weight. After the victory over Ige at UFC 303, the Brazilian received applause from the MMA community. However, one fighter who took the time to criticize the 29-year-old was Movsar Evloev. He is the only fighter who defeated Lopes in the UFC. The Ingush fighter called out the Brazilian, who seemed uninterested in the rematch.
“Hey @Diegolopesmma, I wanna give you a rematch at the Sphere because @funkmasterMMA is running for his life, and this time I’m gonna finish you,” tweeted Evloev. After Lopes lost to the Ingush fighter at UFC 288, he reeled off three victories, all in the first round. Afterward, he called for a rematch with the undefeated featherweight. However, Evloev had no response and looked for fights against Ilia Topuria and Aljamain Sterling instead.
“It took you 3 months to get back to me. Sit back and watch the big guys do the work,” Diego Lopes harshly trolled Evloev, claiming to be the bigger name. The Ingush fighter didn’t like what the Brazilian tweeted. He cited Lopes’ losses in MMA and his lackluster performance against Ige in the third round of their fight, urging him not to talk trash.
“On Saturday night, Dan and I did something you would never do in your life. You’ve only had one fight in 13 months. You have no right to anything. First you seek to finish someone, or at least try to get a submission. 🤫,” Lopes responded to Evloev’s harsh criticism. Incidentally, even Dana White had criticized Evloev’s boring fights, particularly his last one against Arnold Allen at UFC 297.
