The UFC middleweight division is heating up, and not just inside the octagon. Former champion Sean Strickland has fired back at Khamzat Chimaev’s recent statements. Chimaev, the undefeated Chechen-born fighter, claimed he dominated Strickland in a sparring session.
The American fighter took to social media to respond and didn’t pull any punches. Strickland filed his response with his signature wit and some sharp jabs. “I’m glad he found time to speak this BS. I thought he was too busy running from crypto scams and hiding from warlords, lmao,” the 33-year-old stated.
Chimaev was allegedly involved in a crypto scam. involving a coin known as the “Smash Meme Coin.” However, Chimaev has maintained his innocence on the allegations. He said that he was duped into promoting it. ‘Borz’ is also friends with the Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, whom the West has labeled a war criminal.
Chimaev and Strickland have trained together in the past. The Chechen fighter claimed that he dominated the fight and even choked out Strickland. The UFC matchmakers have their work cut out for them. If the UFC brass decides to make this fight happen, it will be a war between the two rivals.
Sean Strickland Reveals Turning Down Khamzat Chimaev Fight In Saudi Arabia
UFC fighters display bravado and are willing to fight anywhere. There are some cases of potential hometown advantage and places where fighters are not comfortable fighting. Enter Sean Strickland, the outspoken middleweight. He has drawn a line in the sand about where he shall not fight.
In an interview with Shakiel Mahjouri, Strickland recently declared that he wouldn’t fight Khamzat Chimaev in Saudi Arabia. “Nah, I wouldn’t go to Saudi Arabia. Hang out with a bunch of burqas, I’m good man…Something about burqas and no bikinis and sh*t, doesn’t sound like my place,” Strickland said.

It’s not exactly the kind of diplomatic response, but then again, Strickland has never been one for politeness. The UFC is in a tricky situation. Chimaev can’t fight in the United States, and Strickland doesn’t want to fight in Saudi Arabia. The UFC would have to choose a middle ground where both athletes can settle the score.
