Jose Aldo returned from retirement at UFC 301 to fight the final fight of his contract. Aldo emerged victorious against Jonathan Martinez and entered the top 10 bantamweight rankings. He is now a free agent, and Patchy Mix, the Bellator bantamweight champion, wants a piece of him.
After UFC 301, Aldo expressed interest in re-signing with the UFC. However, there has been no development regarding it. Moreover, any potential new deal would depend on the UFC offering an easy path to a title shot at bantamweight for the ex-featherweight champion.
Patchy Mix Eyes Jose Aldo for Future Bout
Patchy Mix recently did an exclusive interview with MMA Fighter Damon Martin. Mix talked about his recent title defense against Magomed Magomedov and upcoming fights. The name Jose Aldo also came up in the interview.
“Jose Aldo is a free agent…I saw that he recently finished his deal over there in the UFC. So if he’s going to sign with anyone, I’d love for PFL or Bellator to snatch him up,” said Mix, citing he would have the edge over the ‘King of Rio,’ in a potential fight.
Mix praised Aldo’s performance against Martinez, citing Aldo’s evolution to compete at a higher level. However, he was dismissive of his performance against Magomedov, noting that he missed the opportunity to submit Magomedov in round 3.
Even though he is not in the UFC, many consider Mix the best bantamweight in the world. Even Islam Makhachev, the UFC pound-for-pound king, called Mix the best grappler in the bantamweight division.
