Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira saved UFC 303. After Conor McGregor’s injury and subsequent fight cancellation, Dana White called Prochazka and Pereira to headline the PPV. The light heavyweight had no qualms about it.
Prochazka and Pereira had saved the day at UFC 295 earlier, stepping in to headline the PPV after Jon Jones pulled out due to injury. Robert Whittaker, the ex-middleweight champion, recently previewed the rematch.
Robert Whittaker Predicts Pereira to Defend Title Against Prochazka
Whittaker will headline the upcoming UFC Saudi Arabia fight night. His original opponent, Khamzat Chimaev, withdrew due to illness, and Ikram Aliskerov replaced him. Shakiel Mahjouri of CBS Sports recently interviewed Whittaker, and the latter previewed Pereira vs. Prochazka II.
“I’d have to say, I think [Jiri] Prochazka had a lot of good moments in their first fight until he didn’t. [Alex] Pereira is just constant, you know. He’s got to be one of the best strikers in the world,” said Whittaker, leaning towards Alex Pereira to defend the title.
Whittaker also previewed the UFC 305 main event, Dricus du Plessis vs. Israel Adesanya. The former champion predicted du Plessis would retain the title against Adesanya, citing du Plessis’ performance against Sean Strickland as the blueprint to defeat Adesanya.
As for his next fight, Whittaker is a slight betting favorite against Ikram Aliskerov for UFC Saudi Arabia. Whittaker was a sizeable underdog against his original opponent, Khamzat Chimaev. If victorious against Aliskerov, Whittaker can inch close to a title shot.
