“I come here for everybody, k**l everybody.” Remember Khamzat Chimaev’s quote after his win against Li Jingliang? That was iconic and became a part of UFC history. However, the Chechen phenomenon hasn’t been able to gain momentum after this win. He finally broke his silence on his withdrawal from the Saudi Arabia card.
The undefeated fighter recently withdrew from his highly anticipated bout against Robert Whittaker. Fans were left wondering what could have derailed the Chechen-born Swedish fighter’s plans. Chimaev has shed light on the mysterious circumstances surrounding his withdrawal in an interview with Aslanbek Badaev. “My immunity had dropped very much, and we wanted to rest for a little bit for a week. I rested but did not come to my senses. I ended up in hospital and to be honest, I had severe headaches. They said it was stress…I was in the hospital for two days, then I was home. Three days later the same thing happened again so I ended up in hospital once again. They said I needed to rest.” Chimaev stated.
The fighter’s body, usually a finely-tuned machine, had betrayed him at the worst moment. This could have been his straight shot to the middleweight title shot if he won against Whittaker. But sometimes, even the toughest warriors can’t fight off invisible enemies. Even UFC CEO Dana White had shown worry about his recurring illnesses before fights.
Khamzat Chimaev hasn’t been in the Octagon since his last outing at UFC 294 against Kamaru Usman. He won the fight via a majority decision but got many tongues wagging about his lackluster performance. But Chimaev is a warrior. The same one that fought two times in just ten days. His fans will be looking out for his comeback soon.
Khamzat Chimaev Eyes Title Shot In Comeback Fight
Chimaev is back in the spotlight after recent unfortunate events. This time, he’s not just looking for a fight; he’s demanding gold. The Chechen fighter has been making waves since his UFC debut. With a perfect 7-0 record, he believes he’s ready for the big leagues.
Khamzat Chimaev recently stated that he would probably fight in October in Abu Dhabi. This is most probably going to be the case as he is not permitted to fight in the USA due to his association with Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov. “Most likely [I will fight in] in October in Abu Dhabi. [Against who is] unknown so far. I would like to fight for the title.”
