Some major news in the world of Mixed Martial Arts broke tonight, as UFC President Dana White announced a mega fight that will be taking place on March 4th in Las Vegas. And it will feature the return of one of the sport’s most dominant fighters.
Following tonight’s UFC Fight Night, White announced that Jon “Bones” Jones will be making his return to the octagon at UFC 285 to take on Ciryl Gane for the vacant UFC Heavyweight Title.
The UFC heavyweight title previously belonged to Francis Ngannou, but White announced that he is no longer with the company after turning down a contract that “would’ve made him the highest paid heavyweight in the history of the company.”
In Ngannou’s last fight with the UFC back in January 2022, he defended his title against Gane, winning via unanimous decision.
White and the entire UFC world were probably drooling over the possibility of a Ngannou-Jones title fight, but Jon Jones’ return alone should be enough to draw some big-time pay-per-view numbers.
Jones’ last UFC fight game back in February of 2020, when he beat Dominick Reyes via unanimous decision. He owns an insane 26-1 mixed martial arts record, with his only loss being a disqualification. He’s widely considered to be one of the best (if not THE best) pound-for-pound fighters of all time.
