Toughness is a must-have when MMA is involved. The fighters go through rigorous training and become used to the pain. These pains can render a non-fighting person unable to even do anything for months. The riding lightweight prospect Jean Silva showcased this recently in his bloody battle with Drew Dober.
The bout at UFC Denver was already legendary. Now, it has entered the realm of the unbelievable. Silva revealed he broke both hands in the first round. Basically, he was fighting without his main weapon – his hands. But, with his sheer toughness and will, he went on to win the fight.
“Imagine being in a match against a tough, top-weight opponent in his town and suddenly realizing you broke both hands in the first round… This happened to Jean Silva. He came back and knocked [him out with] elbows.” Silva stated via Instagram
When Silva told his corner about the injuries, their response was pure fighter mentality. He revealed that they told him to keep fighting, using knees and elbows. And that is what he did. Silva not only continued but managed to secure a third-round TKO victory. The doctor stopped the bout after an elbow caused a deep cut above Dober’s right eye.
Notably, this was Silva’s third UFC win and second in just two weeks. Just a fortnight earlier, he’d knocked out Charles Jourdain at UFC 303. The ‘Lord’ is likely in for some well-deserved rest. Broken hands tend to damper training plans. However, this fight against a veteran of the sport will definitely go down as one of the best displays of toughness in MMA history.

Jean Silva Reveals His Admiration For Drew Dober After UFC Denver
The MMA world that respect often blossoms in the aftermath of battle. It’s a peculiar paradox in combat sports. Silva’s recent victory over Dober at UFC Denver is a perfect example. Silva, the rising Brazilian star, didn’t just win a fight. He conquered a personal idol.
Jean Silva’s words dripped with admiration for Drew Dober after the fight. Isn’t it rightly said, ‘You admire someone, then punch them on the face?’ Silva’s respect for Dober goes beyond just fighting prowess. He admired the man’s entire life journey and his UFC career.
“It’s like I’ve been saying all week, I’m such a huge fan of his [Drew Dober]. Look at what he’s done. Look at the things he’s accomplished and has been able to build in his life, all with his work…So to share this stage with him, I’m very proud, and the Lord is very proud to have been in there with him.” Silva stated in the post-fight press conference.
The Brazilian fighter was clearly moved by the crowd’s reaction to the hometown hero, Dober. Their screams of support left an impression on him. But keeping admiration aside, Silva did his job perfectly. He cut Dober badly, leading to a doctor’s stoppage. The fight was a war, leaving both men battered. The ‘Lord’ broke both his hands, and Dober, well, his face was a mess after the elbow made him leak blood like a broken faucet.
