Islam Makhachev, the pound-for-pound king and UFC lightweight champion, is in a conundrum. His potential matchup at UFC 308 against Arman Tsarukyan is now in jeopardy due to Tsarukyan’s suspension. Moreover, after recently losing to Makhachev at UFC 302, Dustin Poirier has expressed interest in a rematch. Furthermore, Michael Chandler revealed he had received an offer to fight for the title.
Chandler Reacts to Poirier’s McGregor Interest
Conor McGregor’s withdrawal from UFC 303 seemed bad for Chandler. However, the former Bellator champion revealed the UFC had offered a title fight against Islam Makhachev in October. Nonetheless, he admitted he is more interested in a McGregor fight. Interestingly, Poirer also voiced his interest in a fourth fight with McGregor, eliciting a response from the 38-year-old.
““No thanks” – retire man…we good,” Chandler responded via tweet, citing Poirier’s retirement thoughts he revealed before and after his fight with Makhachev at UFC 302. It didn’t take the former interim lightweight champion too long to respond. “Choked your ass out, and you haven’t fought since,” the Louisiana native tweeted in response.
Makhachev Shuts Down Poirier’s Callout
McGregor was not the only target for Poirier. With Arman Tsarukyan facing a potential 9-month ban for punching a fan at UFC 300, the promotion needs a challenger for Makhachev. Since Tsarukyan had criticized him for losing at UFC 302, Poirier had picked the Russian to triumph over the Armenian in the potential title fight.

With Tsarukyan potentially not fighting in 2024, Poirer quickly expressed interest, tweeting, “If arman can’t fight let’s go again @MAKHACHEVMMA.” However, the pound-for-pound king seems to have no interest in a rematch. “No thanks,” Makhachev responded to the tweet, closing the doors for an immediate rematch.
