Ian Garry looked poised to carry on Irish MMA after Conor McGregor. Garry can still do it, but he is now one of the most hated fighters in the UFC. With an undefeated professional MMA record, the Irish fighter vowed to become a champion.
Next up for Garry is an exciting clash against Michael “Venom” Page at UFC 303. Due to specific reasons, the 26-year-old trains under Diego Lima at Chute Boxe. As such, he is now a close friend and training partner of Charles Oliveira.
Ian Garry Reflects on Charles Oliveira’s Mentorship
Ian Garry has quickly become one of the best students in Lima. However, Charles Oliveira remains his prized student. Garry has championship aspirations, and who is more qualified to advise him about them than Oliveira, the former UFC lightweight champion?
Garry recently posted a series of pictures with Oliveira on his Instagram with the caption, “What do you think his advice was? 😏 @charlesdobronxs”. In the pictures, Oliveira appeared to give some serious advice to the Irish fighter.
Oliveira holds the record for most finishes and submissions in UFC history. Page, Garry’s opponent, is a skilled striker. The Irishman is also a good striker in his own right, but a grappling-heavy game plan will likely favor him in a matchup against Page.
Layla Anna-Lee, Garry’s wife, is half-Brazilian. Garry has also accepted Brazil as his second home. Oliveira will likely be in Garry’s corner at UFC 303. Page has already targeted a matchup with Kamaru Usman after UFC 303. Garry can steal that fight a victory over Page.
