Alex Pereira made a statement at UFC 303. The world knew why “Poatan” headlined UFC 303 instead of Conor McGregor. With a second-round head kick TKO of Jiri Prochazka, the Brazilian erased any doubts anybody had about the first time he fought the Czech Republican at UFC 295. The scintillating performance of Pereira has now caught the attention of Jon Jones.
Pereira’s UFC 303 Win Sparks Heavyweight Title Talk
After Periera won the vacant light heavyweight title at UFC 295, the MMA community pondered whether he could repeat the feat at heavyweight. However, UFC CEO Dana White had no intention of letting the Brazilian go up in weight. However, with his subsequent two title defenses, at UFC 300 and UFC 303, ending in brutal KO victories, the CEO seems to have a change of mind.
Nevertheless, many, including Joe Rogan, have already begun sowing seeds of a dream matchup between Pereira and Jones. The heavyweight champion certainly took notice of the attention the potential fight was getting. “I would choke him out just like I did Gane. I’m the king of the jungle,” Jones predicted the possible matchup between him and the Brazilian champion.
The arguable GOAT of MMA seems okay to give Pereira a chance. However, he had a condition. Pereira would have to beat Tom Aspinall, the interim heavyweight champion. Moreover, Jones will have to beat Stipe Miocic, which he seems pretty confident of doing. Aspinall had already expressed interest in welcoming Pereira to heavyweight.
However, Aspinall has a fight against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 in London, where he will put his title on the line. If victorious, Pereira or the winner of Jones vs. Miocic is likely next for the Brit. Nevertheless, Pereira has opened as a sizeable underdog against Aspinall and Jones in the potential matchups. Interestingly, he is also a small underdog against Magomed Ankalaev.
