Ian Garry’s interest in fighting Colby Covington didn’t come to fruition. Garry also wanted to fight under a PPV headlined by Conor McGregor, which didn’t happen. He will now face Michael “Venom Page” at UFC 303, headlined by Jiri Prochazka and Alex Pereira.
Among fans and fighters, Garry is a controversial figure in the MMA circles. The 26-year-old Irishman has made several enemies, and Page, the former Bellator fighter, seems to be one of them. Preluding the fight, the Irishman was dismissive of the Brit in a recent interview.
Undefeated Garry Set to Outclass MVP at UFC 303
With a perfect 14-0 record in MMA and 7 in the UFC, Garry has aspirations to become the welterweight champion soon. The former Cage Warriors welterweight champion is confident of it, evidenced by his recent appearance on Ariel Helwani‘s MMA Hour.
“I’m looking at the seven guys ahead of me… I deserve to fight one of those guys. I have no interest in fighting below me…I still have no interest in fighting MVP[Michael Venom Page,” said Garry, revealing he will be going into the fight with an ‘I am better than you, I’m going to prove it, and that is all my job is’ mentality.
Garry is ranked 7, and Page is ranked 14 because of the massive difference in quality. Therefore, he plans to ‘outclass’ his British opponent on June 29th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, in the opening fight of the UFC 303 PPV main card.
Garry had earlier criticized Page for his inability to become the champion at Bellator. On the other hand, Page seems eager to teach the young Irishman a lesson during the fight. The fight now has all the makings of an exciting affair, which fans should never miss.
