Alex Pereira successfully defended his light heavyweight title in the main event of UFC 303 against Jiri Prochazka. With the second-round TKO victory, Pereira’s last four victories have all been against former light heavyweight champions. Preluding the fight, Prochazka had accused the Brazilian of sorcery. However, the champion has refuted those claims.
Pereira’s Coach Reveals Fighter’s Denial of Witchcraft Allegations
With the recent victory over the Czech Republican, Alex Pereira is now 2-0 against Prochazka. Their first fight at UFC 295 also ended in the first round, but they felt referee Marc Goddard stopped the fight early. There were no doubts this time, as referee Herb Dean’s stoppage has garnered criticism for late stoppage. Nonetheless, the fighters have sorted out their differences after the fight.
The pair met at the airport, where Team Prochazka and Team Pereira took pictures. Moreover, Pereira discarded the witchcraft allegations levied against him. “Just so you know, I never touched witchcraft in my life… I’m a man of god the same way as you are, so do not get it twisted,” Plinio Cruz, Pereira’s head coach, revealed on the MMA Hour what the champion told the ex-champion.
After the devastating loss, the Czech Republican addressed the situation, citing the need to evolve or retire. On the other hand, Pereira expressed willingness to take on all comers, even at heavyweight. His performance at UFC 303 made Dana White change his heart, as White was against Pereira moving up in weight earlier.
Surprisingly, Pereira is a sizeable betting underdog in his potential next fights. He is a small underdog against light heavyweight Magomed Ankalaev. However, he is a humongous underdog against Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall, the promotion’s undisputed and interim heavyweight champions, respectively.
