Ian Garry has become a controversial name in MMA in a short span. The undefeated Irishman occupies the seventh spot in the UFC’s welterweight rankings, which he will be looking to keep after his upcoming fixture at UFC 303 against Michael Venom Page.
Page and Garry have not interacted before but seem to have a rivalry, as evidenced by their conversations on social media. With Belal Muhammad and Leon Edwards fighting for the welterweight title at UFC 304, Page and Garry will be looking to inch closer to a title shot.
Garry Boldly Declares Superiority Over Page
When Michael Venom Page was about to make his UFC debut against Kevin Holland, Garry picked against him. Page defeated Holland and called out Garry, which the Irishman declined. The Brit saw it as a form of fear and weakness. However, Garry had to accept a fight with Page at UFC 303 as he was the only one who agreed to do it.
The 26-year-old seems very confident of his chances against Page, as evidenced by his interview with New York Post Sports. “[MVP] never won a world title in Bellator… he couldn’t do it at Bellator he thinks he’s gonna do it here?” said Garry. He even vowed to end Page’s career, claiming that Brit has no chance against top welterweights.
“I’m faster than him; I’m prettier than him. I’m more technical than him,” Garry revealed why Page won’t beat him. Garry is now a teammate of Charles Oliveira at Chute Boxe. A matchup against Page is a nightmare standup battle. The Irishman had recently revealed he had received advice from the Brazilian for the UFC 303 fight, possibly grappling.
Michael Venom Page vs. Ian Garry is the opening fight card of UFC 303. Therefore, they must set the tone for the other fights on the main card. If victorious, both can call out the champion or a number one contender fight.
